Lift a Cube Strength Training: How Push-Ups Work

Learn how to start push-up training in Lift a Cube, read your Strength gains per session, and understand how rep speed differs from gain per rep.

Walk onto the training pad near spawn and press Train — listed as Number key 1 in the game's control list, with E as the general interact key. Your character starts doing push-ups, and once begun, the animation repeats automatically. As one player described it, "when I do train, I don't have to like spam clicks or anything. It just does auto." A first session typically ends once the Strength counter clears the first cube's requirement — the tutorial prompts "Gain five strength," then lifting the Wood Cube. You can stop by leaving the pad or pressing Train again. WASD moves, Spacebar jumps.

Reading the Strength changes from a training session

Each repetition adds a small amount to the Strength counter, and the visible per-rep gain readout shows what your current setup earns per push-up. Observed sessions include:

  • A fresh account with no upgrades training to 186 power before the next cube gate.
  • A mid-game character at roughly 15.7 million Strength checking the readout before attempting a heavier cube.
  • A player whose per-rep gain read "plus three" after an early purchase, then "Plus 12" after a later material upgrade.

Training runs on its own while you do other things nearby. To measure a session, note your Strength number before starting, train for a fixed stretch, then compare the after value — the counter only moves up, since the game has no reset mechanic. Exact per-rep values vary widely depending on your setup, and the developer does not publish a formula, so treat any number as observed under the conditions shown on your own readout rather than as a guaranteed constant.

Repetition speed is separate from gain per repetition

Two different numbers describe training speed, and upgrading one does not change the other:

  • Push-up time (seconds per rep) controls how many reps you complete per minute. Push-up time purchases shrink the timer — players observed it drop from 1 second to 0.85s, then further toward 0.6s and 0.42s deeper into a run. This multiplies reps per minute without touching what each rep pays.
  • Per-rep Strength gain controls how much each rep is worth. Arm materials and strength multipliers raise this number.

Both layers stack: faster arms mean more reps, and stronger materials mean more Strength from every rep. Note that clicking faster does not increase training gains — training is hands-free, and faster clicking instead helps with lifting cubes.

What changes ordinary training results

  • Arm tier: buying a better arm directly shortens push-up time, raising reps per minute from the moment it is equipped.
  • Train speed upgrades: a separate purchasable layer that stacks on top of the arm rate rather than replacing it.
  • Bonus train: a temporary cadence multiplier that builds while you stay active at the training spot; long breaks away from the pad drop it.
  • Arm materials (from chest rolls): multiply the Strength each rep is worth — for example, an observed common Sand material at 1.5x Strength.
  • Idle behavior: with a fast arm tier equipped, your character can remain at the pad and keep gaining while you step away, though the bonus train buff decays during long absences.
